New motor energy efficiency standards are coming into effect

New Motor Energy Efficiency Labeling Regulations Coming Soon

On 2016 6, 24, the National Development and Reform Commission, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and the Certification and Accreditation Administration jointly issued an announcement (No. 14 of 2016) to develop and revise documents such as the "Catalog of Products Subject to Energy Efficiency Labeling in the People's Republic of China (2016 Edition)."

The announcement clarifies the implementation rules for energy efficiency labeling of three-phase asynchronous motors. These rules apply to single-speed, totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC), N-design general-purpose or explosion-proof motors powered by a 380 V, 50 Hz three-phase AC supply, with rated power ranging from 0.75 kW to 375 kW and pole counts of 2, 4, or 6.

Energy efficiency standards are based on GB 18613 for energy limits and efficiency grades of small and medium-sized three-phase asynchronous motors, effective as of 1 10, 2016.

Understanding energy efficiency label requirements helps match motor efficiency levels appropriately during equipment selection.
